Carla Mooney

Carla Mooney is the author of more than 25 books for children and young adults, in a variety of subjects. Explorers of the New World: Discover the Golden Age of Exploration With 25 Projects is her latest title in Nomad Press’s Build It Yourself series. She is also the author of George Washington:25 Great Projects You Can Build Yourself and Amazing Africa Projects You Can Build Yourself, a 2010 Moonbeam Award silver medalist.

At ALA she will booktalk and share activities from Explorers of the New World.

The book offers a fascinating look into the explorers and voyages during the Age of Exploration. Readers ages 9 and up can explore the life and voyages of de Gama, Columbus, Magellan, Cabot, Cortes, and more. Using common household items and minimal supervision, kids enjoy 25 hands-on activities to help them learn about these legendary explorers and voyages in world history. Projects include making a star map, creating and using a compass, learning to tie a sailor’s knot, and designing an earth pendant.

In addition, Carla share a journey through some of her other recent releases from ReferencePoint Press and Norwood House Press, sharing ways to use the titles in libraries and classrooms.
